About Me

I work in Cyber Security and I love it. I’m either currently working on, or have been involved with:

  • Vulnerability Management
  • Application Security
  • Cloud Security
  • Secure Architecture
  • API Security
  • Red (Purple) Teaming

In a past life I was a Ski Instructor. I did that for 15 years. 6 of those years featured back to back winters, bouncing from Colorado to New Zealand. During that time I also fit 7 years of working in Bike shops as a Bicycle Mechanic. More important than careers I have pursued vs. what I’m pursuing now, I am a life long learner. Obsessive.

This blog is a place for me to write about the problems I’m obsessed with today:

  • Secure Defaults, Paved Paths, Systems Thinking.
  • Reducing Duplication of Work, Increasing Transparency and Communication.
  • How to Balance the Tradeoff Between Speed and Scale vs Boutique and Curated.
  • Telling and Seeking Truth vs. Telling and Seeking Stories.

As well as other topics like Linux or Powershell or AI and even sometimes other topics or additional context I find appropriate.

On a different level, this blog is my reaction to building a second brain, or digital knowledge garden or personal wiki. I’m learning new things all the time, and trying to expand my abilities. Rather than invest an additional level of effort into doubling down on the learning process, I want to challenge myself to take that learning and produce something concrete. By writing something cohesive I get to do a couple of things. First a blog post or an essay is more helpful for others to learn from. Second, it’s a dialogue. Third, to be able to state a case persuasively you need to understand the material and concepts deeply enough, so I actually am doubling back down on the learning.
